thinking about clothing again…
I want to make clothes! I want to make gorgeous, sensual, jaw-dropping frothy silk and linen creations! I’ve been drooling over the Prada spring shifts, all wrinkly and soft and tiny. I think this project has to start with the fabric–fabric that is fine and soft, natural fiber, strong and durable. That looks good wrinkled and mussed. I want to make garments that look good in a hayloft, or dipped in the ocean. I’ve been scared to work with silk, because it is expensive, but no more! I will embrace the beautiful qualities of silk that no other fiber can quite live up to, make my bedsheet protos first to perfect the designs, and then forge ahead.
I have a new dress designed, made the prototype out of an old sheet, and I’m just waiting for the silk chiffon to arrive so I can produce some. I’m thinking of hand-dyeing the fabric, maybe dipping the dresses in tubs of dye for a fade effect.
I’m also working on a sort of tomboyish linen button-up blouse, with long cuffed sleeves and a tie at the neck.
Skirts are flitting across my mental landscape in the background–I’m thinking high waisted, just above the knee, full either pleated or gathered. That will be later, I think.
The dress I’m hoping to have in my etsy shop by the end of this month.
